All around the world, women face a variety of legal, economic, and social constraints. Women often feel as if they are in competition with men in the personal lives, the workplace environment, and in school settings. More often than women, men are seen as the domineering figures in society. There is often more respect for male professionals, even from women, than there is for female professionals. The ongoing “rival” and inequity between women and men has yet to finally cease. The purpose of this essay is to examine the oppression of Africa women through the Feminism and Gender Studies, Cult of Domesticity and Marxist theoretical lenses respectively to focus on women’s depiction by the media, their role in society, and education level.
